Hey hey,

It’s the first weekly email of the ‘24-25 school year! Commence mirth and celebration!

Here in Oregon, we don’t start for another three weeks, but as many of you are already hitting the ground running, I wanted to get out this week’s email. You’ll notice things are a bit streamlined from last year. If you missed my previous update about the changes for ‘24-25, you can read all about them here. Also, if you missed my news about returning to a building you can peruse that saga here.

We’re kicking things off this year with a little Simon Sinek. This is a fantastic video about cultivating curiosity. I think it fits well as we go back to school and meet new colleagues and students. The Weekly Emailable PD focuses on a similar theme.

Enjoy and go get ‘em!

Mike

P.S. As we often do at the beginning of the year, we’re sending the first week or two for free to all subscribers. Have a look below and consider upgrading before prices increase!

Weekly Emailable PD

Use in staff newsletters, emailable PD messages, etc.

For first-time readers, this is the section where we provide PDFs and JPEGs of downloadable PD that you can email to your teachers in your weekly newsletter. And when you become a paid subscriber, you get access to a whole year’s worth of emailable PD right away - 43 weeks of PD covering topics like student engagement and classroom management.

This week’s PD comes from one of my favorite books, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond. (Go ahead, click on the link and pick it up - I don’t make any commissions off of book recommendations). This week we talk about the inverse relationship between fear and trust and offer a few relationship-building techniques for getting to know students at the start of the year.

See below for downloadable PDFs and JPEGs for your staff newsletters.

Download a PDF here or JPEGs here.

Something Interesting or Fun (or Both)

I found this amusing … maybe you will, too.

Astronauts went to the International Space Station for a week. They may be stuck there for six months! 😳
