Hey friends,

It’s almost go time! For me, at least.

In Oregon, teachers head back to school in a week and students return the following week. I’m still splitting my time between a bit of planning and wrapping up some big house projects before life gets uber hectic again.

I know many of you have had your first week or two, or begin on Monday! Sending you all warm wishes for yourself, your teachers and your kids. Let’s go!

A great, heartwarming video this week. We all have those one or two colleagues that really raise the game for the rest of the staff. If you’re lucky, you have more than a couple on staff. I hope this video is well received by your educators.

Mike

P.S. As we often do at the beginning of the year, we’ll send out the first couple of weeks for free to everyone. Consider subscribing to continue to get our weekly and monthly PD emails regularly. Also, check out all the benefits of becoming a paid subscriber!

At this point, I think most teachers know to cue up the PowerPoint presentation about all the things that make them human. Kids need to know that their teachers exist outside of the walls of the school.

Similarly, nearly every educator invests the effort to get to know student names as soon as possible. It really builds a connection. This week, we’re offering a handful of strategies to connect with students on a deeper level. We cover a staple show-and-tell technique, a slightly more creative take on the “What I did over the summer” assignment, and, finally, a special, long-term project the whole class can complete together.

See below for downloadable PDFs and JPEGs for your staff newsletters.

I found this amusing … maybe you will, too.
