I really love this week’s video. It says so much without saying anything at all. It also resonates with me deeply.
I don’t talk about this too much, but my life prior to teaching was very similar to that depicted here. I had a fancy cubicle in downtown Portland. I worked in accounting and finance. I got big annual bonuses. And I soon became convinced that life was not meant to be spent in a spreadsheet.
At age 30, I went back to school, got my teaching license, and started all over on a first-year teacher’s salary in front of sixth graders. And I can honestly say I have never regretted it for a second.
You all do extraordinary work. Perhaps you’ve been a lifelong educator and don’t have much to compare it to. But believe me, most people don’t come close to having the direct impact that you do.
Keep it up. And vote!
